On the 16th February 1994 the embryo club of The Probus Club of the Howe of Fife was formed.
Efforts by the Rotary Club of Howe of Fife eventually came to fruition when President James Storrar presented a gavel to mark the formation of the Club. He also gave a talk on William Paterson, a Scotsman who founded the Bank of England and who was the originator of the ill-fated Darien scheme.

A Message from the President
The purpose of the Probus Club is to provide a regular meeting point for retired professional and business men who appreciate, and value in their retirement, increased social contacts and opportunities to meet others in similiar circumstances. Membership is open to all professional and business men aged sixty and over, resident in the Howe of Fife district who have fully, or partially, retired from their normal business or profession.
Our area includes Gateside, Strathmiglo, Auchtermuchty, Dunshelt, Falkland, Freuchie and Ladybank.
We meet at the Auchtermuchty Bowling Club on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, ( excepting July), at 10am till 12 noon and usually have an interesting guest speaker.
At present we have approximately 45 members and normally have attendances in the mid thirties.
Please feel free to come along to any of our meetings and ask for myself, Andrew Addie, President, Jack Gow, Vice President,  Bryan Bowden, Hon. Secretary or Sandy Rennie, Hon. Treasurer, (e-mail renniew@strath33.freeserve.co.uk) and we can assure you of a warm welcome.
