From small beginnings Inner Wheel has grown into one of the largest organisations for women in the world today. It began on 10th January 1924 in Manchester when Mrs. Oliver Golding presided over a club formed by the wives of Rotarians. This club was the first to bear the name Inner Wheel and the anniversary of this meeting is celebrated each year as World Inner Wheel day

In the following years, the organisation grew until in 1934, when 79 Clubs had been formed, it was decided to unite them into the Association of Inner Wheel Clubs Great Britain and Ireland.

Inner Wheel now has over 102,000 members in 98 countries throughout the world - 28,000 of those being members in the UK.
Clubs meet once a month and speakers are invited to talk on a variety of subjects and fund raising and social events are organised for throughout the year. Last year over £1,300,000 was raised for charity and other good causes. There is no compulsory attendance rule - their belief is that the more you put into the organisation the more you will get out.
The Inner Wheel was formed to complement and support Rotary clubs and offers the hand of friendship worldwide. Membership is open to the wives, widows, sisters, daughters, step daughters, daughters in law and partners of Rotarians as well as the mothers, sisters, and daughters of Inner wheel members
Clubs raise funds individually for charities of their choice, but fund raising is not one of the stated objects which are

  • To promote true friendship
    To foster international understanding
To encourage the ideals of personal service

The Inner Wheel Club of Cupar, Fife, currently has 37 members and meets on the last Wednesday of the month at 6.30pm in the Eden House Hotel in Cupar.
